Michael Josh Villanueva is a technology journalist, multimedia producer, digital strategist and entrepreneur.
He’s spent the last 15-years working in broadcast and online media specializing in content creation, social and digital strategy, and technology.
He is currently CEO of his own company, BlueOrange Digital, a team of digital natives helping brands create multimedia content that people want to share.
In 2014 he setup the multi-platform technology network GadgetMatch (YouTube, Facebook and Instagram) which he continues to grow as a producer and anchor. He is a strong advocate of providing an Asian perspective to consumer technology reporting, and the need to produce tech content that everyday users can understand and relate to.
His other current pursuits include writing technology columns for The Philippine Star & Esquire Magazine, Philippine Airlines, anchoring the web show TechTalk for SM CyberZone, guest reporting on the SiriusXM program #TheFeed (Channel 167 in North America & Canada), freelance reporting for Channel News Asia, and lecturing at the Asian Center for Journalism.
From 2011-2014 he was a core member of social news startup Rappler – splitting time growing the brand, developing strategic executions for distributing content across multiple platforms, outlining mobile and video strategy, working on marketing related initiatives, organizing the annual Manila Social Good Summit and representing the company to speak in behalf of technology for social good.
He served as Rappler’s Director for Special Projects, Editor of the Technology Section and producer and anchor of the weekly technology show TechRap.
Prior to Rappler, Michael Josh spent a decade with broadcast network GMA 7 where he spearheaded the digital efforts of its news and public affairs department. He setup GMA’s social media team, jumpstarted its citizen journalism program YouScoop and revolutionized transmission and live reporting through digital news gathering initiatives.
While at GMA, Michael Josh also worked as a reporter and producer covering politics, technology and sports for GMA 7, QTV 11, GMA News TV and GMA’s AM radio station DZBB 694.
Michael Josh holds a Masters Degree in Journalism from the Asian Center for Journalism (ACFJ) at the Ateneo De Manila University where he is a Konrad Adenauer Fellow, and a Broadcast Communications Degree from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
He is a US State Department International Exchange Alumnus and Edward R. Murrow Fellow and co-author of the book The Social Media (R)evolution published in Singapore in 2012.
